Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use out-of-network benefits?

In some cases you may be eligible to use out-of-network insurance benefits. You will be responsible for paying for each session in full at time of appointment.

I work with Mentaya, a platform that helps clients get money back on out-of-network therapy sessions. If you have out-of-network benefits, Mentaya will file claims and handle the insurance paperwork to make sure you get reimbursed. This service will be provided at no cost to you.

How much will I pay for therapy using out-of-network benefits?

You can use the out-of-network reimbursement calculator below to get an individualized estimate of what your costs will be using your out-of-network benefits!

If you have out-of-network benefits, they typically will reimburse you for 60-80% of the cost of each session.

If you’d like, I will submit claims to your insurance company on your behalf via Mentaya.

What if I'm not sure that we will be a good fit? If we decide we are a good fit, what does it look like to start working with you?

This is hugely important to me. Research shows that the relationship/connection that you have with your therapist is the strongest indicator of your therapeutic outcome, and I want these sessions to support you in your healing. In order to do that, I follow the process below:

Step 1. Introduction/consultation call

My first step in working with you is to complete a free, 15 minute introduction and consultation call. During this call, we talk about your goals in coming to therapy, I tell you a bit about myself as a therapist, and we work together to determine if my skills are a match for your goals. Ultimately, it’s important that we both feel that we’re a good fit.

Step 2. Schedule and complete the Intake Session
If we both decide we’re a good fit after our intro call, we will schedule an “Intake Session”. During this first full session, we expand on what brings you to therapy, I invite you to share more about your past and present life experiences, your current symptoms, and where you’d like to see yourself going in therapy. Then, we develop therapeutic goals.

Step 3. Begin regularly occurring therapy sessions
Sessions are 50 minutes, and include time to process past/present events from your life, as well as time to build skills and strategies to cope, to heal, and to grow.

How often will we meet?

I meet with the majority of my clients on a weekly basis. I ask that all new clients commit to meeting weekly, for at least the first 6 weeks. This will allow us to start off on a strong foot, so you can start seeing progress right away.

I may recommend that we increase or decrease the frequency of sessions to best meet your needs.

How long will I need to be in therapy?

This will depend on your goals in therapy, and how the therapeutic process supports you as an individual. Most of my clients find relief from their symptoms in approximately 3-6 months, and continue with maintenance therapy (usually bi-weekly or monthly sessions) as they enjoy regularly having a supportive space to process thoughts, feelings, and stressors that arise.

I will communicate with you about my clinical observations of your progress, and we work together to determine the best path forward for you once your goals have been reached.

I don't live in Michigan or Massachusetts. Can we still work together?

Unfortunately, we cannot. As a licensed master social worker, I am bound by licensing board requirements to provide services only to clients physically located in the states in which I am licensed.

If you live outside of Michigan or Massachusetts but would still like to find a therapist in your area, email me! I am happy to share referrals to amazing therapists I may know in your area.
